City of Tulsa Pipes & Drums

In February 2017, I became the social media manager for the City of Tulsa Pipes and Drums, a Scottish bagpipe band based in Tulsa. Prior to that, the band had no social media presence and their website needed to be rebuilt. I created a new website along with Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram profiles, and later created a Facebook page for OSU Pipes and Drums as well. I have since mostly transitioned out of day-to-day social media management, but I occasionally manage the band's website and design flyers, videos, and digital assets as needed. We are planning a website redesign in the near future.

One of the most notable projects during my time managing their accounts was a St. Patrick's Day campaign, developed as my Master's Project. St. Patrick's Day is the band's biggest event of the year, making it a natural focus for a campaign aimed at increasing awareness in the Tulsa area. The project began with both primary and secondary research, including an online survey, to inform the strategy, and set specific goals: growing social media followers by 10%, producing content for the band's newly launched YouTube channel, and increasing event revenue. The campaign used strategically boosted Facebook posts and paid advertisements, along with varied headlines and graphics designed to capture audience attention.

Although the 2020 St. Patrick's Day events were ultimately canceled due to COVID-19, the campaign still achieved several of its goals. Facebook followers grew by nearly 30% and Instagram followers grew by 6%. The campaign also brought in four new email subscribers and increased website traffic by 92.6%. Despite the cancellation limiting merchandise sales opportunities, the band sold four t-shirts. On YouTube, the band added a new video during the campaign period that reached 79 views and 43 unique viewers, gaining three new subscribers, with plans for additional content once in-person events resumed.
